“ Healing War Trauma Through Art “

About Us

Intisars foundation is a humanitarian organization started in 2018 to provide refugee women with psychological support.  We are the first charity organization in the Middle East focused entirely on healing refugee women from war trauma.

Our Founder, HRH Sheikha Intisar AlSabah, had taken notice that few initiatives placed the psychological support dimension at the heart of their programs I decided to take action. She commits herself to the reconstruction of injured souls by focusing the foundation’s actions on psychological support programs. All our overhead costs are covered by our founder, HRH Sheikha Intisar AlSabah.

While official reports have shown that women are the first victims of armed conflicts, Intisars Foundation exists to be part of the solution to build the post-war life by providing an initial response through psychological support programs.

Only by knowing our strength can we pick others up when they are down and inspire them to rise above their challenges.

Message from our founder

I am an ardent believer of peace and humanitarian action.

Being fully committed to humanitarian causes, I have dedicated my time and effort to the issues of education, health, child protection, human rights. As a lifelong philanthropist, I have always been involved with Humanitarian organizations that work towards providing education, upliftment and equal opportunities to those who need it most. I am an active member of the Human Rights Watch Kuwait chapter and have been involved in spreading awareness and raising funds for UNHCR for victims of the Syrian War.

In light of the latest conflicts in the Middle East, I founded Intisars Foundation in 2018, a private initiative born from a desire to give the opportunity for women to treat their psychological trauma, to strengthen their resilience and to support them in to give them a new perspective to their life.

The Mission

Intisars Foundation is a charity foundation that provides psychological support to refugee women. We provide refugee women with gentle, culturally sensitive, and non-stigmatizing approaches to mental health care. We do so through group Drama Psychotherapy programs that target women in refugee dense areas.

We believe that women are the cornerstone of every household and the material that holds communities together. Hence focusing our efforts on women, as we believe they will instill this positive change within their families and communities at large.

Our programs are impactful and effective in alleviating war trauma. We offer group therapy of 12 weekly sessions over three months for each group of women. Each group is no more than 20 women, giving each participant enough time to space to heal properly. Following this, the participants are invited to attend ongoing monthly sessions that provide the support and continuity needed to sustain their personal growth and healing process. This unique model is the first of its kind, developed by Intisars Foundation, to ensure effective and sustained psychological improvement for the beneficiaries.

Our programs have helped women overcome depression, anxiety, and trauma related to their war and post-migration conditions. They also create a sense of community among the participants and build a network of supportive and understanding peers.

You can help by donating to Intisars Foundation, contributing to our mission of healing and empowering One Million Arab Women. By donating to Intisars Foundation, you are helping us reach one more woman in need of psychological support, implementing more programs to reach more communities, and planting one more smile on a refugee woman’s face.
